NS 3 Leadership and Management Short Essay #1 25134737 Date Submitted For the longest, most people have defined leadership as a noble trait, a defining quality of great people that we read in our history books, that we hear in the news, and that we try our very best to emulate. In the modern day, through various theories and ideas, we have justified the definition of leadership, not as a singular characteristic but, as a set of abilities utilized by one to influence followers towards a common set goal. Our society demands for both leaders and managers. I perceive my own leadership as a follower-serving, task-oriented manager rather than an authentic leader. A lot of people frequently make the wrong assumption that leaders and managers constitutes the polar regions of a leadership spectrum in which leaders are seen as â€Å"good† while managers are seen as â€Å"bad.† To answer this cognitive dilemma, managers are essentially leaders in their own terms, with different roles and responsibilities. While a leader’s role in an organization is to provide a vision and lead the team to that said-goal, is it the manager’s job to manage the details and specifics on how to achieve that vision.
